Lauryl Lane

Lauryl Lane

Greetings! I’m Lauryl Lane, and I’m an event designer, floral artist and stylist based in Los Angeles, California. Simply put, weddings are my passion. For me, the most rewarding aspect of the wedding design process is getting to know the couples I design for and incorporating who they are, as well as their personal “couple style,” into the overall design aesthetic of their wedding. This results in highly personal, one-of-a-kind events.

I grew up in the wedding industry. My mum, Victoria Hoke Lane, is an incredible calligrapher and graphic designer. I would not be the designer I am today if it weren’t for my Mother instilling in me a love of beauty, teaching me the basic elements of design and the rules of etiquette, and encouraging me to follow my dreams.

At the University of Tulsa, I studied theatre and creative writing. I did my emphasis in acting and costume design, but I also took classes and executed practicums in lighting design, stage management, set design, makeup design, directing, and production. All of my theatre studies contribute greatly to my ability to design and execute exceptional weddings. Ultimately, weddings and events are productions— and I do love a good production!

During my sophomore year of college, I began training as a floral designer under the watchful eye of Karen French. When I graduated with a BA in theatre, I took a full-time position as a floral designer in the shop where I was trained, Brookside Blooms.

In 2006, my husband and I moved to Los Angeles so that I could pursue a career in acting and costume design. However, I quickly grew disenchanted with the film industry. I realized that floral and event design was my true “calling,” and it wasn’t long before I was managing a floral design studio in West Hollywood. Since then, I’ve worked with and for some of the most prestigious international event and floral designers, and I have designed for numerous A-list celebrities and for a wide range of high-profile soirees.

After many years of working for others and learning the intricate tricks of the trade, I formed my own company in 2007 under the name Flora Organica Design. In January 2010, I switched the name to Lauryl Lane Design, since people seemed to remember me better by my given name.

More about me? Besides being obsessed with flowers, theatre, and all the elements of design (especially color and texture!), I’m also a fiend for old books. There are more books in my house than I’ll ever be able to read. I’m a total foodie, and enjoy cooking but really love to bake. I believe that the kitchen is the heart of the home. I live in a 600 square foot, early 1900’s bungalow in Silver Lake with my husband. It’s cozy. I love interior and fashion design. I thrive on details. I do some photography from time to time. I speak a little French, play the piano very ill indeed, and enjoy singing when given the opportunity. If I could live anywhere in the world, it would be London. I adore that city. I also take every opportunity I can to travel the world. I’ve been to Barbados, Singapore, Hong Kong, England, Wales, France, and hope that list will continue to grow. My travels have definitely aided in the development of my design aesthetic. I spent two summers in England studying Shakespearean acting and have seen over 60 plays/musicals on stages in London and Stratford-Upon-Avon. I’m also obsessed with Shakespeare and Jane Austen. In high school, I had a business making regency-era dresses for women who went to Jane Austen balls. I go to Jane Austen balls myself! I sew, and craft, and drink a lot of English Breakfast tea with milk and sugar. I don’t like bad drivers, ego maniacs, reality television or being sick.

That’s me in a nutshell… and you’ll find more than you ever wanted to know over on my blog. My blog combines floral design and industry-related posts as well as posts that are of interest to me personally- from baking, to photography, to excursions around Los Angeles.
