I was flipping through photos on my computer yesterday, and came across these precious shots of my baby niece. She’s a rollicking two year old these days, but when she was five months old she came to visit me in L.A., and I took her to a graveyard to photograph her (of course). I made her a crown of pink spray roses, which she wore with one of MY ancient baby dresses. My Mum saves stuff like that.

Totally angelic, right?

I’d received a request for images from a magazine, so I spent some time yesterday going through wedding photographs… and I came upon these sweet shots {courtesy of Alec Vanderboom} from my sister’s wedding last summer. I could count on one hand the number of weddings I’ve designed that had children involved, so on those rare occasions when children are part of the wedding party, I try to be creative and avoid the ever-so-typical basket of flower petals or fabric ring pillow.

My niece Laria was only a little over a year old when she was the tiniest attendant in my sister’s wedding. I didn’t think she was really old enough to follow many instructions, so I made a simple mossy pomander for her to carry.

I’m not sure she was a fan… but then, it was a long day of getting pretty, taking pictures, and skipping naps. Laria tends to be cranky when she skips naps.

Somehow, Laria managed to make it down the aisle with her Auntie Rose, with her hair bow intact and her pomander ball in hand.

But once she made it to the front row to sit with her Daddy, she threw that pomander ball back into the aisle as hard as she could! Babies have a way of letting you know how they feel about things…
