My beautiful big sister turned turned thirty last month. I don’t know why thirty seems like such a milestone, but it does. In celebration of Vanessa reaching that milestone, her family and friends came together to throw her a real party! Naturally, my contribution was the floral decor!

The party took place poolside at the Oakwood Apartments here in the Hollywood Hills, with a “tropical” theme for the simple decorations.

On each of the tables I arranged a cluster of three rectangular vases in alternating heights. Each vase had black river rocks in the base, and they each featured a different “tropical” flower submerged in water.

The tallest vase held a green anthurium.

The middle sized vase held a yellow pincushion protea and a swirl of flexi grass.

And the shortest vase held two green cymbidium orchid blooms, attached with decorative green wire.

I also added little green vases to the floral clusters, and filled them with water and floating gold candles.

It really was a lovely party, and as the sun began to set, our little patio area became quite magical with all the flickering candlelight and the shimmer of water on the pool.

The seating vignettes were cozy and inviting, despite being mere poolside furniture!

I think candlelight is the KEY for making a party POP!

Of course, good friends who perform a synchronized “revue” adds a POP right along with that candlelight! ;-)

Happy 30th, dearest Vanessa. I have a feeling this year is going to be a good one!
