Erin and Andy had been together for many years and have an adorable toddler together, so they had a clearly developed sense of style and it was pretty easy to figure out what they liked and didn't like. They are art buffs and long-standing members of Bowers Museum, so hosting their nuptials there was a natural fit. During my walk-through at the venue, I was really taken with the natural southern-California landscaping and decided to implement some of the indigenous plants that were part of the museum's grounds - olive branches, succulents, etc. Since the museum is very stark and creates a black and white backdrop for the art installations, we decided to run with that and used linens and rental furniture in black and white too, which of course set the stage for all the brightly colored florals that Erin loved so much! The floral pieces were created with color and floral-blocking to add a modern feel despite the free-flowing style of the arrangements. Black velvet and satin ribbons added a touch of luxury while clear glass vases and black wooden boxes kept things modern and grounded. Mini planted succulents served as guest favors as well as the base for the escort cards. A trio of square moss-covered wreaths with succulent accents hung on the glass wall as a backdrop for the dessert display. I loved working with more modern elements while still being true to my natural, wild and heavily textured aesthetic. It was such a pleasure designing with Erin and her planners on this lovely event and I know that she and Andy are continuing to enjoy life together with their son!

It's always sad when you come to the end of a project, and this is the last of the "seasonal bouquets" that I created over a year ago. For this "winter" themed bouquet, I imagined what I might do if I were re-designing my own bridal bouquet. I was married on Christmas Eve, and my colors were green, white and brown, but my bouquet didn't have the sort of texture that I am so obsessed with these days. In fact, I don't think the green eye garden rose was even around when I got married! I did have cedar in my bouquet, and seeded eucalyptus, but the lisianthus, dianthus, and fern fronds are new additions. Are there any other winter brides out there? Would you carry this bouquet?

Erin and Brad are Chicago natives who decided to wed in the Vail Valley, one of their favorite vacation destinations. They were high school sweethearts and have been together for over ten years, so they had a well-defined personal "couple" style, and it was such fun to translate their style into a wedding that was distinctly them. From the birch archway I constructed and decorated as a backdrop as they said their vows, to the carpet of delicate petals on their aisle way, to the whimsical bouquets and boutonnieres, to the highly textural tablescapes, no two alike, this wedding was infused with mountain-elegance from beginning to end. Working with Erin and Brad and Erin's parents along the way was easy and enjoyable, despite the distance separating us, because truly, these are some of the kindest people I've ever met. Wishing great joy and many more decades of love and togetherness for Erin and Brad!

This wedding was particularly special for me as it joined my little sister Olivia with her college sweetheart, Joshua. The design was a joint venture between our talented mother (calligraphy), the groom (graphic design) and me (florals & decor). As all of us were in different locations across the country, it was challenging to schedule phone calls, but such a joy to see everything come together so exquisitely in Tulsa at the Alma Mater that I share with Liv & Josh. Olive leaves were used throughout the wedding decor as a nod to the origin of Olivia's name. Other flowers included roses, ornamental kale, sweetheart roses, hypericum berries, peonies, scabiosa, hydrangea, curly willow and monkeytails. The paper sheet music flowers in Olivia's bouquet and the boutonnieres was Olivia's major DIY contribution to the event, and a nod to both Josh and Olivia's love of music. There were so many personal touches, I could go on for days. It was such a perfect day.

(Olivia will be joining me here on Friday to do a guest post and share a tutorial for the sheet music paper flowers that she designed and made!)
