I love blogging. Oh, you didn’t know that? Perhaps it’s because I never blog here at lauryllane.com. Ever. Hardly ever. But I really do love to blog. I’ve been doing it for… yikes. Over five years. I started blogging before it was cool, back on Xanga, where lots of strange people wrote way too many details of their personal lives and put those details out on the internet for all to see. Don’t bother to look, I took my Xanga blog down a couple of years back. Too much family drama, too many details of college life, too many vent sessions while planning my own wedding, etc. It was just too much.
But I kept on blogging. I moved around a few times on the blogosphere, and I learned the difference between keeping a diary (which I have done since I was 8 years old!) and keeping a blog. That’s very fortunate for you. ;-) The past few years I’ve kept a blog called Aesthetic Pursuits. It’s nothing special or fancy, but I do like to post about pretty business cards I come across, or the yummy things I bake in my kitchen… or just the “simple things” in life that are beautiful to me.
After much thought and a few nudges from friends who read both of my blogs, I’ve decided to merge the two. I’m taking Aesthetic Pursuits and making it the official blog of lauryllane.com. It won’t just be about business, and it won’t just be about my “personal life,” it will be about both. Because honestly, since I run my own business, business and personal life tend to be all wrapped up together. It’s hard for me to separate the two, and frankly, I don’t see the point. Guess what that means? More for you to read (if you’re not excited about the prospect, kindly refrain from saying so)! ;-)
Along with this blog change, you might have noticed that my business name changed, too. It took a long time to make the transition, but the name Flora Organica Design has died a quiet death. I’ve spent a little bit of time mourning (especially over that gorgeous logo that my Mum had designed for me), but ultimately this is a good thing. The Flora Organica Design name came about quite a few years ago when I was going to go into business with a partner/friend. We were going to have an actual shop front, and we were going to design with succulents and organic florals exclusively. But the business partnership didn’t work out, and when I decided to start a business on my own, I kept the name Flora Organica Design. I had chosen it, after all, and done all the legwork to get it registered and official. Two years later, the name wasn’t working. It constantly was mis-printed both online and in print, causing me to spend large amounts of time asking people to correct it. Admittedly, it was long. And hard to remember.
Ultimately, since I run a one-woman show here, people remember me by my name. And I’ve got a rather memorable name (thanks, Mum!). So when I decided to ditch Flora Organica Design, it just made sense to use my own name instead. So far, it seems to be working well. And I’m sure it will be working even better when that placeholder logo up there goes away and is replaced by a fresh calligraphed logo — soon, soon! In the meantime, thanks for bearing with me. You guys are the best.
And oh- check back soon! I’m heading to the kitchen to make some lemon bars, and I’ll be blogging about it later! You know you want to drool over photos of yummy yummy lemon bars!
